Is a Miata Good for College?

Im about ready to buy my first car, and im really looking into a miata. Ive heard its fun and gets good mileage, and since im going to a college near the beach (cal poly to be exact), i thought this car would be perfect. I live in the SF bay area, so its about a 200 mile drive, and i would plan on visiting home maybe once every two-three months. Since I have to pay for the car/gas, I would probably be looking for a model between 1993 and 1997, automatic transmission preferably, probably with at least 100k on it. Is it worth buying?

it should be a good car, reliable and good mileage. automatics are somewhat a rare find though.

You don't want an automatic. I bought my daughter a 1998 for $7000 for the same reason you want one. She has a 10 gallon tank so she fills up for apx $40 and she gets about 30mpg. You will love it, but do not get an automatic. They do not have enough accelaration
