  1. the D60 give you a number of things you want. It has newer firmware and image processors, designed for the 10 mp sensor. It has an "Active Dust Reduction System with Airflow Control ". Nikon not putting a system on the D40 to deal with dust is one of the biggest drawbacks I see to the D40 ( though I think its still a great camera for the money) If you change lenses dust will get in and the camera needs a system to deal with it. With the D60 you get a VR lens. That will help with low light situations ( they may offer that now with the D40 but originally it was not) . The D60 has Adaptive Dynamic Range. Nikon calls it "Active D-Lighting," it lets you save some highlights that my otherwise be lost. It has a newer better metering system than the D40.

  2. I know what you mean by having a love for one brand. I love Canon for no particular reason.

Anyways, the Nikon D60 will be a great camera for you. I wouldn't hesitate to get it.

As for sample pictures you can check out this page:

Keep in mind that the features on the D60 are going to be pretty much the same as any other SLR. If you see a cool effect on there it's probably due to the lens or the technique used to take the photo, not the camera itself. Don't think that just having this camera will allow you to take every photo you see there. On the other hand, don't get frustrated if they don't come out like some of those photos because it all comes down to practice, practice, practice.

  3. D60 is plenty for all kinds of work. I have one, I love it and I will NEVER part with it.

My wifey laughs when I am so satisfied with the pics I took and when I kiss it, she says I am crazy. Yup, I love it that much.

You should be able to do all kinds of creative things with D60. You will never regret it. I have taken many important function of my friends and family such as Bar and Bat Mitzvah, baptism, weddings, b'days, etc. etc..

    Vacations? Perfect pics. every time.

It gives me great pleasure to manipulate the pics using Adobe photo elements. You can get photo shop if you like for even better flexibility.

I am sure you will love it.

I used to have a Canon Rebel XT. They are good too. Somehow I like Nikon. With the money I made at these functions, I have invested in some decent flash, lenses and other accessories. I am just so committed to Nikon. They make the best equipment in the world.
