Some kings and queens ascended to power during revolutions and/or coup d'etats. They do have long-lasting ancestors who reigned as kings and queens. However, in some countries, leaders proclaimed themselves royalty. Is what makes someone royalty really their blood or just that they are the monarch of a political entity?

  2. You can be royal by blood or by marriage...but as you said, revolution happens and the 'royal family' can change.

  3. All Royalty began by men proclaiming themselves leaders these were Great Men who served their people well or the people would have revolted. Being royal means you are in the position of power because of respect for your ancestors, so I think the first few generations are less royal (as they could have easily been removed by the people) but more important.

  4. Royals are Royal because of "blood"  or descent from a royal ancestor.

A Prince of the Blood was a person who was legitimately descended in the male line from the monarch of a country. In France, the rank of prince du Sang played a major role in determining court precedence during the Ancien Régime, from the reign of King Henry IV of France onward to the reign of his great-great-great-great-great grandson, Charles X. A prince du sang or a princesse du sang had to be a legitimate member of the reigning House of Bourbon. In some European monarchies, but especially in the kingdom of France, this appellation was a specific rank in its own right, of a more restricted use than other titles.

  5. Well first people were Royal because they believed that their power was because of the "Divine Right of Kings"...meaning they believed that God wanted them to rule. This was also in a time were religion was VERY important, and often the church highly influenced the monarchies. After that royalty was passed by blood and marriages. Some were different, most went from King to their sons, the princes but in Russia it went brother to brother untill it had to pass to the children, but it was changed later on.
