  1. $400 ... no way.

It is one of the cheapest forms of digital cameras.

    No optical zoom

A 5MP sensor that with manipulation called interpolation they call a 12MP ... a total lie.

It has a fixed focus lens (that means it is prefocused to about 2m (about 6 feet).

And it uses a super old and slow USB 1.1 port (P&S cameras have been using the highspeed USB 2.0 ports for years.

The camera is worth maybe on a good day about $25 including shipping costs.

Look here for real digital cameras

    http://www.dpreview.com

You will find cameras that have 7MP sensors with 3x optical zoom lenses that are auto-focusing for under $100.

  2. Tracking it down, it seems that it is not highly regarded, nor is the company.

First thing to get around is that the 12 megapixel is "fake marketing", and if you compare to the 5MP it really is, you can find honest 5MP cameras, good name refurbished, or a new Polaroid, at similar prices.
