I'm starting to look for my first car. I've looked at many. My favorites are BMW 5 series and Saab 9-5's. Are these good reliable cars that will last?

  1. the BMW 530i Because theyre much more reliable than saabs, have fairly good fuel econoomy and are better looking. Also ,BMW has been nominated as the fourth best auto manufacturer just behind toyota honda and subaru.

  2. I'm so jealous, my first car was a hand me down 89 ford crown vic lol.  BMW would probably be the best but the maintenance is sky high.  If you are considering these cars be prepared to deal with the cost.  For a first car, a Honda Accord or something a little bit simpler might be in order.

  3. BMW is 10 times better

don't buy a Saab, Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover or a Jeep.

BMW, MB, and Lexus are expensive to own and repair but have better repair histories than the others

  4. they will cost a ton of money to fix because there more expensive cars. it depends if you want to pay a $1000 to fix a bumper!!

  5. Ugh.  People wanting to put new drivers in cheap Asian-brand tin cans and then wonder why teen drivers die at higher rates...

If you're getting a foreign starter car, though, I say go with Volvo.  They've been working on safety for decades.

SAABs are safer than BMWs and they aren't the official car of the desperate yuppie.  Bimmers are.  Unfortunately, GM is doing everything they can to ruin the SAAB marque, so the year is key.  SAABs have oddities, but when something goes wrong, it's more likely to be a light on the dash than a complete meltdown (ahem... VW).

  6. they are great cars, as long as you have the finances to repair them. basic maintenance costs are considerably higher than most other domestic cars-- plus some shops will not work on them--    but if you have the means, go for it-

  7. They are probably both fine if money is not a concern. For a young, first time car buyer, a more fuel efficient Honda Civic or similar vehicle would serve you better. They are very hard to find if you are buying a pre-owned car. Due to high fuel prices, everyone wants them. Of course, a Honda Prius is also a smart choice.

    Good luck!! ; )
