Is a Subaru Impreza a good car for a young driver? It'd be the basic 2008 model with the 2.5i engine.?

Its a great car, I got my teenage daughter one, we live in Colorado and get 300 inches of snow per year, amazing car in the winter and year round.

It has an excellent safety record, we also looked at the Toyota Camry but it lacked the stability of four wheel drive, which in summer as well as the winter makes a massive difference to the drivability to the car.

Another pro of the four wheel drive is that most teenage accidents happen with the individual car, usually because of a driver error, and with the added stability of the four wheel drive, as well as the midsize layout of the car, combined with the five star safety rating of the car means the the risks of injury are minimized.

Look into active and passive safety features on cars, the Suburu leads the class in this, it is well explained on smart.com under safety.

Yes it is a very good car for a young drivers as it exceeds safety standards along with incredible traction through the Symmetrical All Wheel Drive.

Breaking distance is also known to be shorter than most cars as rotors are installed on all four wheels.

All of these will give your child room to correct driving errors compared to a front wheel drive civic where handling becomes unpredictable and is prone to snap oversteer.

Be careful, the insurance cost increases dramatically if you buy the wrx or sti models. I am currently paying 400$ a month for my subaru.

The car is good so long as you know that you shouldn't race in it least you want to get the car impounded!  Ha ha!  Seriously though, it's good.  If you get the four door,the insurance will be that much cheaper(not a lot, but hey, it's enough) too.  Just keep up on the maintenance and you'll do fine.

I love those cars but the only problem your going to have and the most expensive part is the insurance. Impreza at the moment is one of the highest insured vehicles with all the insurance companies.

Yeah, its an excellent car. My older brother had one when he was 16/17.

They are great quality, and extremely safe (highest safety rating in its class), its got 4 wheel drive! And its an overall awesome car. However, i suggest getting an older model, maybe an 06 or 07, the body style is more pleasing to the eye.

Yes, the insurance is among the lowest out of any new car, its one of the safest and most reliable cars out there, if you live where it snows there is nothing better out there.  They hold high value as well.  Go for it.
