I'd say neither. I could be mistaken but isn't that only applies at genetic variations? like hair or eye colour?  

Everybody has a thumb (deformities and amputations aside) in dependently of the set of genes they're born with.

Having a thumb is a trait, but since everyone has one (i.e. there is no variation) we can't really tell whether it is dominant or recessive and with no variation it doesn't really matter which it is.

It's not a trait, everyone is born with a thumb.
