Question:

Is a Yahoo Group good for connecting businesses within a church?

I am a member of a very large church in New England, and have long seen the need for people to discover who has what kind of business, who might be needing to hire, who might be looking for a job, etc. The church leadership has chosen not to put this on their own website, but may be open to a well-run outside resource. I understand that the message boards in a Yahoo Group can be used to post jobs wanted/jobs offered, but is there a way to create a searchable database of businesses with categories and descriptions?

  1. It looks like this is possible.  Once you have created your Yahoo Group, go to its web page and click on Database on the left-hand side of the page.  Then click on Create Table on the right-hand side of the resulting page to create a table with the various fields you want (name of business, category, description, etc.).  After you've followed the directions to create the table, you can click on its name to open it.  Then you can click Add Record to individually enter the record for each business.  After you've added all the records this way, any Group user can type a keyword in the Search This Table box to search that table of businesses.
