Hey Im planning on getting a bike when I turn 18 in 2 months. I am taking an MSF course to get my license before I go to buy the bike, "I already have my permit" and I'm stuck on what bike to get. I have expierence riding Mopeds in the city's and I have even rode with passangers. I thought they were pretty slow and I'm craving for something with alot of speed and accelaration. I know how to ride and change gears and work the bike obviously but anyways I'm looking for a bike that looks rlly good, is fast, attracts girls, handles turns well, and will be something that I can grow into so when I get comfortable I'll be able to do stunts such as wheelies and stoppies. I was looking at the Yamaha R1 which seems rlly cool and a few other bikes but what r ure suggestions?

  1. I think the R1 might be too much bike for you to handle being a beginner.  A great beginner bike is the Ninja 250R. Get a feel for how to ride that bike then trade it in on a bigger one.

There are some other choices you have. Gsx-r from Suzuki, Honda cbr rr that would be much better for a beginner like your self. Get the feel for the bike first. You don't want to rush

right away to a big bike.

  3. Yamaha R1's have terrible seats for passengers - so I don't think you'll be getting many girls to ride behind you for very long.  Almost any motorcycle of 500cc+ displacement will have much more acceleration than the mopeds you have been riding, so you have MANY other choices.  The Yamaha R1 may look fast to you, but what will others think when you can't handle the bike -- and have other more experienced riders on smaller less sporty bikes routinely pass you?  In track tests -- it has been shown that almost all racers, can ride 600cc bikes faster than 1000cc bikes.  But if looks are more important to you than actual ability to ride --go with the R-1 if you think it gives you that look.  But again, just don't expect to enjoy long rides, and especially don't expect a passenger to.
