  1. Aviation terminology is closely tied to that of naval (Cabin, port, starboard, galley, Captain, first officer)  and in that tradition, airplanes are usually a "she"

  2. I think they are she's. They have personalities, and if you treat them wrong they get touchy right back at you. And they look puurty.

  3. it! duhhhhh.

  4. Mine was bi-sexual. It was a she except when it came back from an annual inspection, when it became a he, and was called a SOB!!!!

  5. Technically, they are asexual. However, ships in the ocean have always been female gender, and airships (especially Zeppelins in Germany), were always masculine (gee, I wonder why...)

Modern fixed-wing aviation was largely developed in English speaking countries which do not use gender in its article declensions, so this is not a language thing. It's a tradition thing. Most war aircraft were named by their crews in honor of mom, a starlett, or the girl they left behind.

It's personal preference, based upon the relationship between the pilot and the machine.

  6. Airplanes are "she," no matter how ugly or cantankerous they are.

  7. anything with an engine is a female. if it were male, you could jump in and go, but you need to get in check all of the instruments, warm the engine up... you get the idea. and if any thing goes wrong it is a %$%^ ( female dog)

  8. They're mostly she but the one with winglets or raised wing tip are g**s.

  9. Either way, I believe most machines have souls. Whether it's a b*tch or a son of a b*tch depends on the situation.

Ships and airplanes are women. They respond to the slightest touch, if you treat them right, they'll treat you right. And they can be willing partners in fun or just go along without causing a fuss.

Treat them wrong and you can get all kinds of problems.

  10. It's an IT you twit !!

  11. A she. Only a woman could be so beautifull

  12. She.

  13. LOL.....Well when I'm trying to stop short of the taxiway I want to exit I'm saying Whooooa their boy..........When I'm trying to get a little better rate of climb I'm saying com'on baby you can do it......and like all females, when she gives me a hard time I say she can be a handfull! and lastly I say she might not be pretty but she fly's like an angel ;)

  14. Neither. An airplane, like all non-living things in English, is an "it."

  15. Neither.  It's a cold hearted machine.
