Question:

Is a bread machine necessary to make bread?

There's a billion recipes out there that require a bread machine, which I don't have. Is it possible to just manually make bread? Ex: Kneading, letting dough rise...etc...

Anyone have guides/tips? Much appreciated.

  1. yes.

not sure of measurements because i do it by eye

flour salt oil and yeast mix with luke warm water

knead it adding flour as needed...wait an hour or so for it to rise...put it in a pan with a bit of oil in it and bake

not very good directions but i dont measure anymore sorry

  2. h**l yeah, bread machine bread sucks anyway, it comes out really spongy and funky...kneading the h**l out of it by hand is time consuming and laborious, but worth it. you can also use the kneading attatchment from a kitchen aid...it works really well too.

  3. Ingredients:

225g (1 ½ Cups) Strong plain white flour or plain wholemeal flour

    1 level teaspoon salt

    1 level teaspoon sugar

15g (1 level tbspoon) soft tub margarine

1 sachet (6g) easy blend dried yeast or fast action easy blend dried yeast

150 ml (2/3 cup) warm water - NOT HOT!

1)Put the flour in the mixing bowl and add the sugar and the salt.

2)Add the margarine and rub into the flour using your finger tips.

3)Add the dried yeast and stir into the flour mix

4)Add all the water at once to the flour mix and stir together using the wooden spoon.

5)Use your hands as the dough gets tough and when it leaves the sides of the bowl clean (add a little more flour if it is too sticky), put the dough onto a floured surface.

6)Now the hard work! The dough will feel tight and lumpy and you must 'knead' it to make it smooth and stretchy. Push your hands into the dough, gather it back into a ball, turn it slightly and then repeat.

7)Do this for about 5 minutes until the dough feels smooth.

8)Shape the dough into your own design and place it on the greased baking tray.

i got this recipe off this website it also shows the tools needed. no bread machine is needed.

  4. you can use the same recipes, but you haev to do the mixing differently.

a countertop mixer with a dough hook is useful, or you can do it by hand.

the last rising should be in the baking pan.

you might also have to adjust the rise times for your kitchen temperature.

don't be disappointed by "failures" every kitchen is different for bread.
