My landlords bought me a dehumidifier for my apartment. It is older and used (danby), it seems to run, but the debate I am having with my dad is whether or not it is safe to use. It has a three blade/prong plug. one of the top (matching) blades of the plug is half broken off. Is it dangerous to use this appliance? Would it, as my father says, cause a fire?

  1. it could, my advice is to replace the cord cap (plug)

  2. i don't understand people. why in the world a landlord would give you a defective appliance is nutts! don't use it and tell him to repair it and quit bringing broken trash into your apartment! people are so cheapo...dangit that's stupid, (not you. your landlord). GL with it!

  3. It IS dangerous. Having a loose electrical connection cause high resistance which equals high temperature and can lead to the plug melting or a fire. The plug can be replaced for around $5 and someone that knows how to wire it, which is a easy task. If I were you I'd replace the plug and not use it until it has been replaced.

  4. it's not a good thing, and it could indeed cause a fire. change the plug end and you'll be fine.
