Question:

Is a cable company allowed to rebroadcast Direct TV programming?

My cable company obviously uses Direct TV to receive its signal (logos, banners, error messages all indicate this) and I'm wondering if it is legal to do so and if Direct TV offers options to rebroadcast signals without giving each subscriber a satellite receiver. It irks me that I have to pay more for fewer channels than Direct TV because of the direction my apartment faces.

  1. I've done repair work for cable companies in BC and Alberta, and have heard of this being done, but never saw it for myself. They usually try to cover their tracks by using a commercial account receiver that doesn't have all those messages coming up.

Yah, it's not legal, but it's because they are using a single consumer account to run a cable system, and if they were using a Bell or StarChoice receiver the same way, it's the same rap. It's just not nice, using a single family sub to resell to hundreds or thousands of people, unless they are using the mega profits to give you extra channels   lol!

Is this way out in the boonies where nobody ( except you ) would notice, or in a bigger city?
