    As others have correctly identified - case work with in the profession of social work is viewed as one role or task that a social worker might take on  (now this is complicated by the history of social work in which one form of social work is called social casework).

    The larger confusion though comes because many agencies (including social welfare and child welfare) may call those with a social work degree "case worker" as a job title -

    However, most of these agencies also will employ people who do NOT have a social work degree (though this is getting a bit less frequent).
