  1. No they just are, monkey, apes, etc, are aware who they are,try showing your cat its reflection it wont recognize itself.

  2. no...

put them in front of a mirror.. they think it's another cat

very few animals are self aware... humans, some dolphins and some whales..

tests have been done with whales where they paint a mark on the whales chin that after a while washes off. they place a mirror in the water, when the mark has washed off the whale  looks for the disappeared mark in the mirror, therefore it knows it's own reflection and has an awareness of itself...

my kitten justs attacks its own reflection 'cos it thinks it's another cat...

  3. Animal intellect doesn't extend to existentialism - their actions are not carried out by will, but by instinct and reflex, and sometimes by human intervention, ie., training, therefore they just 'are'.  (They don't waste time wondering if they're happy, or not!).

  4. Duh

  5. Yes, they have emotions too.

  6. Yes, absolutely. They defend themselves, make plans, remember and get moods.

  7. Cats do not fall under the "self aware" mental category. Only humans, our close relatives, and a few other animals are self aware. Cats only exhibit reactions to stimuli, they do not learn by inflection.

  8. no it just is!

  9. Yes!

Why else would they l**k themselves?

(Okay maybe they want to bathe)

How would they play with others?

  10. I doubt that any animals besides humans are aware of their existence.  To be aware of your existence, is to be aware of your ultimate demise.  This is what makes us the most tortured species of all.  This is why we have so many psychological problems associated with our species.  We are forever questioning why we are "here" and what happens to us when our bodies are no longer "here".  That's quite a burden to walk around with.  You don't see other animal species stressing over this.

  11. well ya!...how the h**l else does it walk around and swat at grasshoppers???

    Josh;)

  12. yup...they have brains you know...they can fight back when they are hurt...they always find a way to get into your food..

  13. it conceptualises itself as quintessentially cat like

  14. Cats are DEFINATELY aware of themselves. They wouldn't have such a self-serving, pompous, I'm-the-king-of-this-castle attitude otherwise. They have emotions. (and I'm not just saying this because I love cats)

  15. we all think we never been a cat before

  16. Yes it is. Cats are as aware that they exist as we humans are.

  17. Yes. It realizes it exists, so it will defend itself. However, if it saw itself in the mirror, it would just see another cat, bnot its reflection.

  18. Yes..It is aware it is a vermin and that is why they slink away in the bushes.

  19. mine is aware of the concept of not sharing, which i think relates to existance.

  20. i think they are
