Is a cat c on a car worth buying?

Hi, i have seen a 1999 (v reg) ford escort finesse, at a scrap yard, and selling at 140.00

only damage is rear drivers back light, and under the light the bumper is slightly damaged, other then that great condition.

is it worth buying, thanks

You've listed the damage that you can see but there may be damage underneath that you can't. The rear suspension geometry may have been affected, the underfloor could be creased and it may well be riddled with rust. Unless you know exactly what you're doing and what to look for then I would suggest that you walk away from it.

NO.. Definitely not...  It is a CAT C because it has been involved in a serious accident. Also you would find it to get rid of when you want to sell....

One other thing to think about is the CAT C could refer to previous accident damage and not what you can physically see.

Yes it is worth buying if you can get damage sorted properly. The way I see it is that the chances are the car was running well before the crash, so it is not like somebody trying to get rid of a car that has other problems, chances are that they would have kept the car if it was not wrote off. I would not recommend buying a car that has its engine sat in the front seats, unless you really no what you are doing. But light panel damage yes why not save your self a small fortune.

key word in me making my opinion, if it were me buying is "Scrap" yard.  its in a scrap yard for a reason.

no no no no no its scrap and dont waste your money on it.

you dont know what other unseen damage there may be on it and it may cost you a fortune to get through an mot.

i would ask the seller what damage is done to the vehicle. then decide if you really want it. as a fixer upper it may be a good deal at that price.$140.oo is really cheap and not a big expense,but the repair cost is probably more than the car is worth. those who do take a chance get the best deals. just get all the info. so you can make an informed decision.
