Is a charger cord with no device attached still drawing electricity?

I have a cell phone charger that i keep plugged in the outlet. Does this still draw electricity even when my cell phone is not attached and charging?

  1. Very much so. And on occasion, leaving them on for extended periods without the phone attached can be a fire hazard. Always switch them off when not in use =)


  2. It will still draw electricity, because the transformer will be able to complete a circuit within itself. The output wouldn't go anywhere, since there is no completed circuit.

    The draw will be more with something attached, but there will be a draw on electrisity as long as it is plugged in.

    If you touch the charger, and you feel warmth, that is the heat inside the charger being generated. This also causes the charger you fail faster than it would if you unplugged it.

  3. yes it does if a basic charger it draws up to 15 watts an hour
