If a human egg is a cell and the chicken egg is not, then what is it? Can a chicken egg be classified as a cell, a tissue, an organ, a system or an organism?

This question has been bugging me lately. Do any of you have a correct answer?

  1. a chicken egg is a cell.

  2. Each is a specialized cell, an ovum.  Once the ovum is fertilized, it becomes a zygote, which is a diploid cell. At that time, it becomes an organism.  So you could say the chicken egg has become a chicken.  But some would say that the fertilized human ovum has not become a person, but is simply tissue.  Does seem inconsistent.

  3. it's an organism. because an organism functions life. it cant be a tissue because it has life inside of it.

  4. The chicken egg is the one that *is* an egg. The human "egg" is not.

  5. The chicken egg is actually a big single cell- same basic parts as a human egg, just bigger and with a shell to let it come outside.  They're both eggs.  Ever eat an egg yolk?  Say hello to the nucleus!
