Is a chihuahua a good pet for a teenager?

Chihuahuas are no more high maintainance than any other breed of dog. Its the owners who make them high maintainance by insisting they need special treats, clothes, the latest collars and accessorys - They're a dog, very small yes, but still a dog. If the teen is responsible enough to care for a dog and can afford any possible medical care etc then they're actually a pretty good pet! They dont take up much space and they are very very very loyal - So long as they are treated like a dog from day 1 rather than a mini human or an accessory, then you'll be fine! Just dont buy from anyone who claims to have "Teacup" puppies - Its just a marketing scam to get people to part with more money thinking they're getting something smaller than normal. They dont stay that small - Even the tiniest pup in the litter can end up far bigger than the others once its fully grown.

Ive been showing Chihuahuas for the last 4 years, and researching them for at least 12 - They're lovely dogs for the right home!
