Is a cocktail party a good idea for my 20th birthday theme?

Question

If i throw a cocktail party for my birthday, what would be good entertainment ideas?

What would be ideal party trays and activities for such a theme?

My mental planning of this event includes serving veggie trays along with fruit-kabobs and tons of other finger food type assortments.

Also, would it be appropriate for me to include shot drinks [ =D ] and loud (club) music into the mix? or should i just stick with plain old fancy stuff (cider drinks and moderately censored music)?

A lovely idea.

If you really want to go cocktail its gotta be interesting style glasses with cherries/olives on sticks. Get a cocktail recipe book for ideas on the drinks and maybe draw up a menu on the computer for a bit of fun and give them to your guests (make up funny names to make them laugh - maybe with their names in e.g. "Clarey mc Hairy - the gin cocktail with a twist") - Buy some sugar, dip the rim of the glass in water and then in suger for a really authentic look.

Definitely agree with the finger food idea - then people can mingle.

Get everyone to wear cocktail dresses and suits and put on some smoooth jazz in the background for the start of the party then when everyone's a bit merry get the club tunes out for a dance-a-thon.

And to the others its obvious she's in the UK otherwise she wouldnt have put that comment in additional info about the legal age...
