Is a converter box the same as a fta reciever?

i have a converter box, but it doesn't pick up many extra channels. i was wondering if the fta reciever would pick up more channels that the converter box?

  1. They are totally different devices.

    The converter box receives ATSC digital TV, from local broadcasting antennas, and converts it to NTSC analog TV.

    An FTA receiver, receives digital RF signals from a satellite via one of the large dishes you occasionally see in people's yards. The format of the signal is not ATSC. So, the devices are not interchangeable.

    If you aren't receiving all of the locally broadcast ed TV, the improve your antenna system. If you are, and want additional channels, then get cable or satellite service.
