Question:

Is a crossover required for full-range speakers?

I am putting together a speaker system that is using 2 or 4 (haven't decided yet) full range speakers. Because there is no need to filter lows to woofers or highs to tweeters, does this mean that a crossover is not required and the speakers can be connected straight to the amplifier?

  1. Yeah, you can...you just gotta turn the amp down so you dont blow them...Most newer amps come with built in crossovers on them.

  2. You could very well connect the speakers directly to the amp.

I would recommend that you install a passive crossover though. You still should filter the very low frequencies out. They would be a major cause of distortion and ultimately the failure of any speakers.

My best recommendation would be to get a good component set. Because they come with prematched passive crossovers.

  3. i would recommend that you install some bass blockers to filter out the frequencies that are too low for the speakers
