Is a cruise bike safer than a crotch rocket?

True, this is the lycra crowd, but as I belong to both, I'll take a shot.

No, a cruise bike is not inherently safer than a crotch rocket.  The safety in the bike lies in the skills of the rider.  I ride a standard bike, neither a cruiser nor a crotch rocket.  I may buy a sport/touring bike next, one that suits my use and my skills.  If I were to buy a Suzuki Hayabusa or a KTM Super Duke, I could well end up in the hospital as the horsepower is more than my skills can handle.  If I were to buy one of the bigger cruisers, the riding position would be totally against my style, thereby making that one less safe also.

Again, safety is a matter of bike fit and maintenance, riding skills, and attention to traffic and conditions.
