I know what a hurricane and tornado is. I am confused about cyclones and typhoons. I do not need a scientific answer, just the basic difference.

  1. Yes.  A cyclone is a type of storm and a hurricane is a tropical cyclone and a typhoon is a pacific cyclone, so yes they are all the same thing with just different locations.

  2. yeah, they are the same

  3. yes they are the same storms just in another location

  4. A Cyclone is any Low Pressure system.  The name is derived from it's Cyclonic Rotation of winds.  Hurricane's and Typhoon's are the same thing in a different location.  All Hurricane's and Typhoon's are also Cyclones, but they are smaller and more intense than normal low pressure Cyclones.

  5. i'm fairly sure that a hurricane and typhoon are the same but in different locations.

i know that hurricanes have an eye but i've never heard of a typhoon having one. but i still think that they are the same thing.

but a cyclone/tornado is different... they're a lot smaller and less predictable.

  6. I think cyclones and tornados are the same, smaller storms with the characteristic funnel cloud, like what brought Dorothy to Oz, but are different than hurricane/typhoon.  I think Hurricane and typhoon are the same, larger storms with giant circular motion, such as Rita and Katrina a few years back.  I know you are familiar with them.
