Is a degree in communications and a degree in journalism really the same thing? Is it a difficult degree?

  1. Journalism is usually a specific area of emphasis for a Communication degree; my major is called "Communication, with a Journalism Emphasis." Other areas of emphasis in communications would be Audio/video production, Rhetoric, and teaching.

    If you like to read and write, it's not difficult (as degrees go, that is; any major requires hard work.) You'll take all of the basic core classes that everyone else has to take, although you won't need as much math and science as some degrees. Then you'll move into Communication classes that might include subjects such as "Journalistic Writing," "Democracy and Mass Media," and "Arguement." You also have the opportunity to participate in Comm activities such as debate club and the newspaper.
