Question:

Is a diet of eating vegetarian 4 days a week and non-vegetarian 3 days a week healthy?

I tend to underestimate how much meat I eat, but when I think about it averages out to 2 meals a day that contains meat. To me, this is too much and I'd like to eat less meat. I don't believe that meat is unhealthy, but eating it twice a day seems unnatural and excessive. I'd like to eat vegetarian for 4 days a week, replacing meat with beans, eggs, nuts, tofu, etc and 3 days a week I'll meat. I also want to eat more vegetables. I eat roughly what is recommended nutritionally, but I can cut back on certain things and eat more of other things. Has anyone else done this? If so, how is it working for you?

  1. I am 14 and was a Vegetarian for a year until my doctor told me I should stop because the lack of protein was making me sick

    Even with protein powder and vitamins

    And being a Vegetarian or Vegan in your teens will ruin your growth

    But after my doctor told me to stop being Vegetarian I became a "Swing-Vegetarian"

    I was Vegetarian for 4 days of the week and ate meat 3 days of the week

    Just keep eating the beans, eggs, nuts, tofu and artificial meat and you should be heathy

  2. Funny, I just read an article in this month's (July) issue of Self Magazine, titled "Part-time Vegan", p. 78. I thought of it as a ridiculous concept until I read on...

    How It Works: Where a traditional vegan eschews ALL animal foods, part-time vegans want to feel better without giving up some meat products, such as shell fish.

    The Diet: Mon - Fri, ptv's restrict their diet to only vegan foods. Sat & Sun, ptv's add cheese, eggs, shrimp or crab.

    Benefits: more energy, weight loss, higher in disease-fighting phytonutrients, lower in calories and saturated fat

    Do It Right: Eat tons of veggies, drink calcium-enriched soymilk, tofu, eat fish for omega-3, take calcuim supplements and multivitamins.

    and you got all your daily requirements of energy giving food and essential minerals.

  4. I'm not a vegetarian, but I never eat meat twice a day:) ... I usually have a salad, or fruit smoothie for lunch.  And, at least 3 of our dinners a week are meatless too.......We'll eat tofu, cheese or eggs for the other meals (usually in salads - or grilled) .......

  5. If you are wanting to make the changes - then make the changes.

    Eat more vegetables, beans, nuts, etc. is going to be good for you.  I don't believe that you will find any to suggest otherwise.

    I believe that you will find it healthy.  *BUT* - I also am not in the medical or nutrition/dietary field.  If you have serious concerns about it - I would suggest that you go to the doctor.  They can refer you to a licensed nutritionist to help you with making healthy diet choices.

    No matter what the choices that you make and if they agree with the choices that I have made - make the one that you can live with and be healthy with - for in the end - that is the most important thing.

  6. Why not just try to eat a balanced meal everyday at least twice per day; I don't usually eat a breakfast even though it's considered the most important meal.

  8. Yes...you need a balanced diet. Your body needs proteins...proteins are the building blocks for muscles....among other things.

    The meat and protein food group includes more than red meat. Fish, poultry, nuts, seeds, legumes and eggs are also included.

    You need protein especially when you wake up...that can be either a hard boiled egg, a scoop of all natural peanut butter or a few slices of bacon. I keep some turkey breast in the frig all the time...

    A diet that rich in fresh vegetables, and meats is healthy. Just eat a combination of both and you will be fine! Too much of anything is not a good thing...think balanced.

  9. You eat meat twice a day? Depending on what kind and how big your servings are, yeah, that could be a bit much. Cutting down will definitely be healthier, so long as you don't replace it with super high-fat things. Lowering your intake of animal foods will also lower your intake of cholesterol and saturated fat.

  10. It's a good idea, but you may eventually find you feel better on the days where you don't eat meat. Maybe not, but I know that if I ate meat right now it would make me feel sick (I'm vegan).

    I support your decision, and yes it is healthy as long as you do it right. Make sure you get enough protein on your vegetarian days and enough fruits/veggies on your meat-eating days.

  11. It's better for you then meat everyday but you won't clean your body or lose much weight if any at all.

    Your fine if you just want to cut back

    If you can handle just veggies then try the soy replacements like Boca, it made my friends who went vegetarian with me who had no idea how to cook live's easy

It might well depend upon how the various dishes are prepared, what oils are being used, what combination of foods and veggies are be eaten at one time, etc., however, and in general, such is much akin to highly lauded Mediterranean diet which appears to be one of the healthiest, as well as one of the best tasting!

    Combine this diet with twenty to thirty minutes each day of light aerobic exercise and two sessions a week of weight resistant training, a little meditation and you should be doing fantastic!

    Please, accept my congratulations for your healthy choices (which is also positively effect the rest of the planet) and please, keep it up.

  13. well, i can tell you that i got the experience but what you have to do now is that give you self time to imagine your who you are? later back to where breath is blow , i swear you will discorver  a great possible control of the diet
