  1. yes, male and female

  2. No. It is the male version of the class standing.

  3. Yes, a woman who holds in her own right the title to a duchy, or else is the wife of a duke, is normally styled a duchess (which is spelled without a "t).  A duke is the highest titled peerage below a king or queen in France, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

    The United Kingdom's Prince Andrew, for instance, is the Duke of York, and until he remarries, or until his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson does, she is the Duchess of York.  The wife of Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, is currently styled the Duchess of Cornwall since the Prince of Wales is also the Duke of Cornwall.

  4. The duke is the husband of a duchess.

  5. What do you mean? A duke is the highest,non-royal hereditary peerage title,and duchess is the feminine term for it.A woman who is married to a duke is a duchess or she is a duchess, a peer in her own right. A duke/duchess who is a peer can run for a seat in the House of Lords in Parliament in the UK.

  6. duke is male duchess is female

  7. They are the title given from a duchy, dutchess being female and duke being male. They are "equal" depending on how you look at it, generally speaking on the topic of peerage, the male's title is of higher ranking. For example King and Queen consort and not Queen regnant and King consort (the title King has always been considered higher than Queen, therefor when a woman rules [like Elizabeth II of UK currently] she was given the title Queen regnant)

    Cheers!

  8. no there married to each other

  9. a duke is simple the male form of a duchess (they have the same social standing), whether it be father, brother, or husband;

    it is just a male form of the same title
