Is a fashion buyer a good job?

Question

i say that because i don't want to go to school to become a fashion buyer and then it turns out that a fashion buyer is not a good job any more or they don't pay as well as a doctor or something. or i could go to school to become a fashion buyer and nobody is really a fashion buyer anymore. then i would be out of a job.

Do your research?  Start with the newspaper and these online employment searches like Monster.com and careerbuilder.com.  If you don't see any openings for that kind of job, I'd be concerned.

Also, check the Occupational Outlook book.  They give you in detail the requirements, schooling and outlook for every job title.  They usually do one for each year.  I think you can look it up on the internet these days.  It used to be a huge book at the library.

Also, find some existing fashion buyers and ask them can you interview them because you are looking to get into the field.  There is nothing like first hand sources.
