Is a fire place safe during an earthquake?

my desk is next to a fireplace. would it be dangerous to hide under the desk ? i dont know anything about the fireplace, since i have never attempted to use it. the desk is very strong btw. th.

i dont think the fireplace is a very safe place to hide  i would try the desk but that could be dangerous too depending on the strength of the earthquake

The safest place, in my opinion, would be a sturdy doorway. It is said to be the safest place for protection in earthquakes.

Under the desk is a far better choice than in the fireplace. The desk will shield you from flying debris whereas the fireplace may crumble into a shower of bricks.
