Its probably a stupid question but I would like to know. Does it matter which leg it's worn on?

  1. I wore mine on my right leg.

  2. I wore mine on my right leg

  3. Garters -- the real ones, that actually served a purpose -- were worn to hold up your stockings because pantyhose hadn't been invented yet. We wore them on BOTH legs.

Every so often on wedding magazines and websites, you will read someone pontificating that wedding garters are sold in pairs because one is meant to be kept as a souvenir and the other to be thrown away, and that they should **both** be worn on the right leg because that is "traditionally" the "maiden leg". You'll also read that the garter is "traditionally" blue. Please note that none of this is supported by any primary research or historical documents.

Garters have always been made or supplied in sets of two because "traditionally" brides have two legs. Prior to the invention of pantyhose  a bride wore one stocking on each leg, and -- preferring that neither stocking end up pooling around her ankle -- wore one garter on each stocking. If you are wearing garters with pantyhose, I'm afraid there really isn't any "tradition" to appeal to.

As for colour, I have found one nineteenth-century folklore research paper on the subject, and it suggested **yellow** was considered a particularly lucky and romantic colour for garters.

  4. Wow, never really thought about it. I guess just whatever you feel comfy with!

  5. Doesn't matter

  6. The right leg. Checked it out on a wedding site.

  7. any leg

  8. I don't think it matters. Some girls like one leg better than the other, so whichever one you want to wear it on, go for it!

    Congratulations!
