I don't really see this as an effective mind analysis-esque question.

If someone is halfway through filling a glass of water, it's half full. If they have drunk it up to the halfway point, it's half empty.

It's always both, it depends on the human who is viewing it. Lose someone you love because of death, it is half empty (or more) win the lottery, find the love of your life, land a fantastic job, give birth to a healthy child, it's full, maybe overflowing.

The human mind and its emotion is the true measure of the glass.

Sigh, life is hard, but if it were always easy we could not appreciate it.

medicine I would expect it to be half empty - champagne half full.

I start to get a bit unravelled about this one sometimes because while it is a good metaphor for positive and negative thinking and an advert for positive thinking it seems that sometimes we lose a faculty for seeing things neutrally

and learn to deal with disappointments

Happily I am quite optimistic and I don't think I need to trick myself into positive thinking - But sometimes, as Freud said a cigar is just a cigar. Or Magriite - of his drawing of a pipe = "Ce n'est pas une pipe"
