Is a green parakeet the same as a budgie

Question

I've found internet references that say it is and others that say it isn't! The green parakeet I have does seem smaller than my last budgie and is full grown.

Opinions amongst the yahoo bird lover community?

budgies and parakeets (though they look alike) are different. parakeets are smaller, but thats about it. i know someone that had two budgies and i had a parakeet (full grown) and he was much smaller. hope this helped!

Not necessarily.  Wild budgies are green, but there are many other colors of them in captivity, and there are parakeet species who can be green but aren't budgies, like lineolated parakeets and Indian ringnecks.
