Depends on their handicaps...If they suck  then it's a "FORE!"some.   Four good golfers would be a foursome.

I'm skeptical about "ancient's" answer that it is an old english/scottish form of the word.  Possible, but I can find no evidence.  It's certainly NOT in the dictionary as a "real" word.

The correct & current spelling is:  FOURSOME meaning a group of 4.
