Question:

Is a hamburger a sandwich?

I am an American living in Vietnam. When I refer to a hamburger as a sandwich they get very irritated and shout, "No, no, no! It's a hamburger, not a sandwich!"

Why do they do that?

Or, if you think that way, tell me why...

  1. Well, a hamburger uses a bun instead of two slices of bread.. also it's kind of always made in the same way (with some variations), but generally it's a bun with beef and ketchup in the middle. A bun with beef and ketcup in the middle is a hamburger, not a sandwich. But I suppose it depends on what people around you call it and what you've been brought up to say so it doesn't really matter what you call it :)

  2. yes...anything between to pieces of bread...
