Is a human-chimp hybrid even remotely possible?

I know that creating a human-chimp hybrid has been discussed within the scientific circle before, and that there are lots of complications involved, but is a humanzee even within the realm of possibility? What would be some of the moral and philosophical implications of a human-chimp hybrid?

  1. Of course it is possible and the moral implications are obvious, I think. Would you play "god" and put the makings of a man into the makings of a chimp (which would be the cursed one is the real philosophical question)?

What would be the point of doing so?

It goes back to the old saying- you've heard it a million times:

"Just because you can , doesn't mean you should."

  2. It is remotely possible with chromosomal polymorphism.  If it happens, it would be an F1 hybrid like the mule.  Philosophical implications are minimal.  Bestiality is condemned in the Bible, but artificial insemination of a chimp female would get around that.  See the third reference for a discussion of the feasibility.

  3. well... I would say yes because all apes are humans closest living relatives...

but then I'd say no because of all the complications involved...

which is wr u'd b forced to combine the two answers I've given coz... u'd eventually create something but Idk wot that something would be... so... it yes and no...

hope this helps in some (however big/small) way...

    =D

  4. It's not possible because of the difference in numbers of chromosomes. Your girl friend is lying to you; you're not the father.

  5. If I remember from reading Michael Crichton's latest on the bookrack (at the drugstore whilst waiting for a perscription), the genetic evidence (human-vs-chimp) has been interpreted to mean that  interbreeding persisted in an erratic fasion even after the two species split....

    Please see site below.

It's all "Planet of the Apes", now, anyway.

  6. I read an article on the matter saying that it was possible, but I think it was before we knew the difference between our genome was more around 5% than 2%.

Still, who would to do that? Chimps are so cute, let's them stay how they are!

    :D
