Is a illegal fireworks citation serious in Provo, Utah?

I got pulled over after a somebody reported to the police about me lighting off fireworks and got a citation for it. A few days later I got a letter in the mail that needed me to show up in court. I've never had a criminal record aside from a speeding ticket, what is going to happen? It's probably serious that they told me to show up in court right? It wasn't a lot, just like 100 dollars worth of fireworks.

I didn't even know it was illegal until the police pulled me over and told me so. There were even advertisements in the newspaper for these fireworks. Also would it affect my friend if I told the judge that we split the bill between the fireworks? The fireworks were in my car so I pretty much admitted to the charges. Any way to lower the charges at least?

  1. Just be honest and ask for community service, etc...It is a huge deal in California. Bring in the newspaper advertisement but do not try to use it as an excuse, ask why it is advertised if illegal. Note-look at the fine print on the advertisement 1st
