Hey, I am turning 17 and I asked my parents for a laptop, the main reason is so they i can take it around the house and it will make it easier to play my computer games and do school work. I am a straight A student going to be a junior this year and I did VERY well in school, I don't goof off. Anyway, the computer I have is a dell and the disc tray doesn't work anymore, the case has something wrong with it and I just want to get rid of the d**n thing. I have not asked my parents for any major gift thus far until recently I asked for the laptop, needless to say it didn't go over very well. So why am I asking this question on Yahoo! Answers? I'll get to that now. The laptop I was looking it is on SALE for I think it was 700 dollars, and if you do your homework 700 bucks is not a bad deal for a laptop. Clearly, this is too much for my parents which I don't understand at all, I ask them for two gifts out of the year :/. SO my question is, can I get a laptop at a CHEAPER price, I really hate to go lower than 700 but I really need a new computer.

  1. i think you can. brand new too. you should check out staples and circuit city. they have laptops for great prices!!

  2. yeah having a lap top is great

  3. yes it is a very good git but the question is ......... do u have a comp already

  4. I don't think $700 is an outrageous sum for a notebook computer. Also, given your situation, I don't think your being greedy. I'd hold firm to the price you've settled on for the machine you've found. You can certainly find laptops for less, but you'll be compromising on performance and reliability. Since your Dell will probably come with Microsoft Vista (go with XP if you can--for now) you're going to "need" at least a 1G of RAM--but you'd do better if you can afford more. Encourage your parents to shop around, especially on the Web. Many reputable companies like Dell, HP, Gateway, Apple, and Toshiba. offer special financing plans that will allow your parents to pay for the computer over time. I bought my HP Pavilion with a 12-months-same-as-cash plan. I'm confident your parents can find similar deals and then the $700 won't seem like so much. Heck, you can offer to pay a fraction of the sum to offset what their willing to pay. I'd steer clear of Walmart and I don't endorse Circuit City or Best Buy either. You can visit a brick-and-mortar store to compare prices and features, but I would advise to buy via the 'Net

  5. yeahh laptops are amazing as a gift!!

get them like a dell notebook [[the ones that fold into a notebook]] or an apple brand laptop like the macbook air...

  6. A Laptop is a great birthday present. You can get them cheap at walmart or you can go to dell and try to find one for a lower price.
