I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was 11. (I'm sixteen). I have everything basically all planned out. If I try hard enough I know I can become a great one. However, I would like to hear from people who might know a lawyer or might be a lawyer. Please give me some advice. Thanks!

  1. thats a great choice

no kidding just looks boring to me

  2. yes

  3. Yes. if you are appointed by reputed firm which is most difficulte task because almost all firm are expoliting freshers in the form of entranceship or training & it is not good choice if you want to work independenly. Earlier there was as good scope but not now. Almost all fresh lawyers are doing Notary work for Rs. 20 /- which is not worth for this degree.

Hope you are satisfied with the answer.

  4. Unfortunately I've out smared many so called lawyers. Because you only need to take a multi question test and pay a fee and take a class every year anyone can be one.  Most lawyers just sell legal forms that you cant get for free yourself and take easy jobs that pay by doing the same thing over and over without needing to think. Every time I need one I can't find one because they only know procedures not the law, Every time I'm i court I have to give my lawyer law codes so they know haw to help me..........So good luck

  5. keep in mind if you're wanting to have a family, a lawyer takes up a lot of time, you may be working a -lot-

  6. I'm a lawyer and have been one for more than 20 years.  Law is nothing like what you see on TV.  Law is a competitive profession that is pretty much all about money (it is NOT about justice and fairness).  Jobs in law are scarce and, while some pay enormously well, most do not.  The hours are endless even in jobs that pay zilch.  Moreover, getting a job outside of the profession can be very difficult as the degree frightens a lot of people.  They think you are after their job.

Before you decide on law, I would suggest you get a job in a law firm and see the profession from the inside.  Law school, even at a fourth tier school, will set you back over $100,000 (and yes, it makes a huge difference where you go to school).  Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you take on that kind of debt.

  7. that's a great choice. im 18 and have wanted to be a lawyer since i was 12 when i realized pop star wasnt a realistic choice! i am starting college this fall for it. it's 7 years of schooling, which is a lot. it's a lot of work. i interned at a law office. it requires long hours. there are so many different types of law to practice. as well as different sides. criminal law interests me. like law and order stuff. which is why i want to be a district attorney so i can prosecute instead of defend. it's a really honorable career, though. u can make good money. there are tons of lawyer jokes and some ppl will give u c**p, but it's an important job. that i find VERY interesting

  8. great choice if you can cut it  study hard for the lstats they are killer lol

  9. It is, but you have to be with a good firm to really make the good money.

  10. Hi Eva,

You are a wonderful girl (I assume) who plans your future when you are just 16 while many 16 year olds waste time doing nothing.

Yes law as career is great. If you consider about world leaders (like Tony Blair. Obama, Hillary etc etc) they are/were all lawyers.

Once you become a lawyer, you will find going to courts is just a one thing. There are so many other avenues you can choose to, once you became a lawyer. You can be a judge, company director, civil servant, university law lecturer etc etc.

HOWEVER, for a start and to see the career in your eyes, apply for a WORK EXPERIENCE session in your local law firm (This can be an unpaid two week period) . This will help you to grasp some basic ideas about the legal career. But do not jump in to decisions until you complete at least 4, 5, training sessions with several law firms. Always apply for a different firm for the next time. By doing so, you will be able to experience the various aspects of the career.

Also, you will need to get good grades from your exams to get a place from a law school.

    Good choice and good luck!

Also keep in touch with Accounting too.

  11. yes you get a lot of money and you get to use your brain which will make you more intelligent.

  12. Wow! Such a strange choice of career from someone when they were 11! Yes, being a lawyer is a great career choice from what I can see.
