Question:

Is a lazy eye curable?

I have what people call "a lazy eye", but it seems different from the common one. Basically, I can choose whether to look through my left eye or my right eye, so I don't know which one is lazy because whichever eye i look through, both are not pointing in the same direction! It is usually only really noticeable when I'm tired, but people notice it anyway, and I hate it. My eyes just refuse to work together. Is there any way, any way at all to cure this, or atleast make it better? Any help on this would be VERY much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

  1. Amblyopia, or lazy eye, is a disorder of the visual system that is characterized by poor or indistinct vision in an eye that is otherwise physically normal, or out of proportion to associated structural abnormalities. It has been estimated to affect 1–5% of the population.

The problem is caused by either no transmission or poor transmission of the visual image to the brain for a sustained period of dysfunction or during early childhood. Amblyopia normally only affects one eye, but it is possible to be amblyopic in both eyes if both are similarly deprived of a good, clear visual image.

Detecting the condition in early childhood increases the chance of successful treatment.

    Treatment of Amblyopia

Early treatment is usually simple, employing glasses, drops, vision therapy, and/or eye patching. While detection and correction before the age of two is considered to offer the best outcomes.

  2. I know someone who had a lay eye and they told me a doctor put a patch on one eye to make the other eye stronger.

Good luck with that. Hope you find a better solution lol.

  3. a very simple and small operation, see your doctor for advice about what to do next, hope you sort it.

  4. My daughter was three when she has strabismus surgery on both of her eyes. She is now 8 and is perfect. I would find a doctor. there is help available. good luck.

  5. yes

  6. I had the same thing as a child, they operated twice, and tightened the muscles behind my eyes so that I could control them better. It still happens to me if I'm tired and look into mirrors, but nobody ever notices now. Go to your GP and ask if they can help you further. Good luck x

  7. yes, perfectly curable with corrective spectacles. See an optician.

  8. i have one too. i was given eye exercises to do (your optician might give you some) this helped alot, and as a kid i had to wear an eye patch over my strong eye, so that my "lazy eye" would "get used to working". this also helped. now i wear glasses (only for reading and when im working on something i need to concentrate for along time on). but still when i get really tired, it starts to wander. but its all good. i also know if its really bad, you get special glasses to correct it. mines not that bad though.
