Painting itself as the hero, NBC Universal says Bravo "was the only one willing to give the program a chance." It says the network and its corporate self "spent an enormous amount of time, energy and money" in "transforming [the show] from an untested concept into an unqualified critical and commercial 'hit.' "

Saying "painting itself the hero..." Is that acceptable in newspaper??

  2. I'd want to read the entire story before making any sort of final judgment. However...

    Sometimes you have to be a little subjective in a newspaper story. In this case, the PR person from NBC was obviously spouting the party line and probably going overboard. The words "painting itself as the hero" might be a little judgmental (and I'm not sure I would have used that phrase), but it's certainly not over the top. You are paying the reporter to use his or her brains in evaluating a story .

    Now, if he or she had written "Falsely painting itself as the hero...", that might be a different story. I'd object to that one.

    Any sort of reporting is going to involve some evaluation.
