I've already done my bachelor's degree in Internet Computing. I found it hard and had to work hard to get my 2:1 honours so I was wondering how much harder a master's is. My uni do 1yr courses.

  1. It's the next step up.

Your 2nd year of uni was harder than your first, your third was harder than your second and a masters is harder by about the same amount as the 'step up' from second to third year.

Most masters courses want you to have a 2:1 or a 1st because anything less and you will struggle.

It's not going to be easy but it is possible.

congratulations on your 2:1 - well done.

  2. In most Master's programs, you are required to do some original work. In a Bachelor's program, you are learning the basics, working on learning how to use other people's work. Now you need to start coming up with some original applications that can take that work a bit further.

A friend is working on a program in voice recognition for his Master's degree. I'm not sure what the application is, but this will give you some idea of what I'm talking about.

  3. I did an MSc straight after my Undergrad. I wasn't expecting much change, but at the end of the first term I was feeling pretty burnt out (the first term we did 4 modules, each with 3 hours lectures a week).

As this was a taught MSc, there was alot more emphasis on doing work on your own outside the class. after the 2 terms of lectures and exams we had to do a dissertation, which was wide open as to what you wanted to do. I reviewed some recent legislation for mine. This is where the creative bit others have mentioned comes in.

  4. The work is generally harder as it is on a higher level. Emphasis is on critical and original thinking and analysis. There is no room for just stating theories, etc.

BUT, if u've already done a bachelors, u'd be used to academic life and matured to that level of thinking/analysis and so it won't be a big transition. So i don't think it would be that much harder.
