  1. not the same,

    mini is 2" x 2" 3/4 inches  cassette size

    8mm or hi8 is 2" 1/2 x 4" inches cassette size

  2. These are the most common consumer video tape types all in cassettes:

    Analog: VHS, Hi-8  (both near end- life cycle)

    Digital:  Digital-8, miniDV, microDV (smallest-Sony only?)

    These are used by different types of camcorders. However, some  digi-8mm vcams might have the capability to just playback analog Hi-8mm.

    - Usually the term 'mini' wud refer to miniDV.

    - Digital wud mean that the data can be edited in a computing environment;

    - a Pc cannot process analog signals.

  3. HI-8 is another name for the 8mm format cartridge. There are 2 types of 8mm tapes, digital as is used in computer tape backup systems and video which is used in camcorders. The oxides ARE different and NOT interchangable. Video 8mm tapes will not work in a tape backup and computer digital 8mm tapes will not work in a camcorder. Most camcorders are analog, not digital, however there IS a newer digital video format that uses 8mm analog type cartridges.

  4. If your question is - will what you bought work in a video 8 camcorder, the answer is yes.
