Is a misdemeanor the same as a felony?

My boyfriend pled guilty to a misdemeanor for a theft that happened in 1999 he was fined $50.00 and it was dropped to a misemeanor. Is a misdemanor the same as a felony?

No, a misdemeanor is a lesser charge than a felony, felony's are very serious.

No a misdemeanor is a "lesser" charge then a felony a traffic ticket is a misdemeanor there are different stages of misdemeanor but none of them is worse the felons

Misdeamenor - Up to a year in jail, no more

Felony - more than a year in prision, no less
