Is a month and a half long enough for an out of shape person to be able to run 2 miles straight in a race?

I thought about signing up for this race, which is 2 miles and it will be in my age catergory [ age 16-18]. I am really out of shape right now and it costs $20. Is a month and a half long enough for an out of shape person to be able to run 2 miles straight in a race? How long should I get out and run a day so I can try to be faster than the others? Thank you.

Ps. I am 16, 5 ft and 165 pounds.

  1. Do as said. Also, you might wanna see some other resolved questions for "how can I run faster?" type deals. And make sure you run distance-like - don't sprint. Don't run on your toes, don't run at full speed. With that you should be able to win a decnt position in the race. Good luck!


  2. if u work hard enough then it should be plenty. just go out and see how much u can run at once the first day, then take the next day easy as a recovery or off, and keep doing that until u can run 2 miles straight

  3. Check out this article.  It's for a 5k in 9 weeks, but you could tailor it to your needs.  It really helped me to get off my butt, and to not take on too much too quickly which can lead to injuries and discouragement.

  4. it should be, depends how out of shape you are. Usually if you train hard you should be fine

  5. yes that is more than enough time. You need to run five days a week. You should start out by running a mile and gradually increase. Dont forget to stretch

  6. Yes. but as the person above said you would start at 1 mile, don't do that! Try starting by running only a little bit then gradually work to about 1.5 miles. once you are there, try to push yourself a little bit farther each day. If you try to go to far on your first couple of runs and you are out of shape you can really hurt youreself. Also stretch, and if you can try leg exercises and mayber work out at a gym !!!!! hope this helps!!!
