Question:

Is a motorcycle or car faster around a racetrack?

Yes, it would depend on the car, the motorcycle, the rider/driver, and the track. Is there a road track where both motorcycles and cars race? That way we can compare the times between them. I guess I'm looking for the fastest motorcycles vs. the fastest cars--just to compare apples to apples.

  1. depens on the bike or car what did you have in mind?

  2. You asked for Laguna Seca ............. try this : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OAMm0GMghN...

  3. A motorcycle is faster for acceleration, but a car can take the corners faster and has more grip.  If they are equally powered, the motorcycle would go faster due to the lighter weight and less air drag.

  4. Search you tube for the the top gear comparos of supersports vs production cars. Other posters are right in that 4 wheels offer more grip than the two wheels, and the additional down force that cars receive from their styling.

  5. No, motorcycles do not hold track records. Most track records are held by super karts or F1 cars. These are highly modified go karts that can really move. Corner speed is the main reason for this. It all comes down to traction and weight / power ratio. Track layout plays a big role in lap times as well. For example Bayliss did a 1:24.8 on his superbike a super kart 1:23.6 and a F1 record is 1:07.722 at Laguna Seca. A tighter/ slower track would give the advantage to super kart.

  6. An F1  Car will be faster than a GP bike into the corners, around the corners and out of the corners. the added downforce allowed to the car makes this possible. the extra power given to the bigger engine of the car also makes the acceleration just as quick, if not quicker than the bike.

off the start line for the first 100 meters or so the bike MIGHT have the advantage but after that its the car all the way.  mainly due to corner speeds and traction.
