  1. a mustang was not designed for winter driving..... if they roads are snowy at all, you will have very little traction, which makes going suck but more importantly, puts you in danger cause they loose control very easily.

  2. The answer is yes. The Mustang is able to be driven in the winter, provided you are careful. I usually give a synopsis of the results from proving ground tests, but due to current projects; it would be a conflict of interest for me to do so at this time.  I will tell you, the Mustang is more able to handle winter driving than most two wheel drive pickup trucks. The reason is in the weight distribution. I don't know the vintage of the vehicle that you are referencing, so I will use the statistics for the current design. The current Mustang platform has a weight distribution of 53% front and 47% rear. This means that 53% of the vehicle's weight is on the front tires and 47% of the vehicle's weight is on the rear tires. Most 2WD pickup trucks have a weight distribution of 70% front and 30% rear (I am procluded from giving the actual information), and I see plenty of them driving in the winter. I am also able to tell you this much. The Ford proving grounds are in Michigan, and we have yet to post pone testing Mustangs due to snow or ice.

One issue that you may encounter is the Mustang is built low to the ground, and may not be able to handle deep, heavy snow; then again neither will most other cars. The rigid handling of a Mustang is actually an asset when driving on ice. So if anyone tells you that the Mustang wasn't built for winter driving, I doubt very much they know what they are talking about.

I would also suggest that if you are in the process of purchasing a Mustang, purchase one that is equipped with traction control. It will help the driver better control the power influx on slick surfaces, and the Mustang will perform almost like a front drive vehicle. Good luck and enjoy your car.

  3. its just about the same as any other rear-wheel drive car.  It's not too bad if theres a lot of salt on the road.  If you are a really good driver then you'll probably be ok if you dont brake to hard or go too fast.  I have one, but i usally choose not to drive it if it just got done snowing or freezing rain.  I think you'd be ok doing it i've never had any problems, just be smart about it.
