I police officer told someone I know that even if a kid is 18+ -- if they are enrolled in school their parent can't kick them out of the house.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This is in North Carolina FYI

(No offense, but if you don't actually KNOW the answer, please don't reply!) it discourages further replies :/

  1. No it is not allowed. If a kid gets married before they are out of high school, or gets a house you can. But if you really want them out if you can convince them to go out on their own and it is legal.

  2. Listen if my kid is still in high school at 18+ than Houston,we have a problem here.Something like this depends on a lot of factors here.First state law comes into play here, and every state has different laws on this matter it is also the decision of the parents as well if the child/man or she is a problem at home in more ways than one that comes into play also.

So all of these play a role the best way to check for sure on this is too look up the laws in that state because they do differ from state to state but at 18+ I mean he/she should be in college or be bringing home a paycheck as well. And if they have no source of income to sustain them on there own that is a little cruel kicking your child to the curb I would say but there in again lies the problem what type of child did you raise that you would want to kick them out in the first place!

  3. At 18, he is an adult, and his parents are not legally responsible for him. His status is school is not a legal issue after 18, so that does not matter.
