  1. The second answer is correct.  I live in Windsor, Ontario, and cross to Detroit, Michigan  at least twice a month.

    At present, if you are talking about LAND travel, government issued photo ID (ie. your driver's license) and your original birth certificate are required.  Air travel is different and requires a passport.

    The passport for land travel stipulation will not be implemented until at least June, 2009.


  2. Technically, yes, but they often don't bother to check.  I go across the border about once a week, and usually they just ask me if I'm American, where I'm going, and how long I'm staying.  Just to be safe, bring your passport, though, in case they do decide to check.

  3. If you are flying, you require a passport.  If you are driving, you don't, until 2009, but you will need picture ID and birth certificate.  If you have one, just bring it.  It is definitely the easiest way to go.
