  1. In early England the word apple was used in place of the word fruit .

    When Captain Cook recorded everything that they found in the new places being discovered , he made a description of the new fruit . He said that it resembled the apple of the pine , meaning a large pine cone . It's been a pine apple ever since.

    It has no relationship to a true apple .
