Question:

Is a printed menu a must have?

I've been to quite a few weddings and can't honestly recall if I have ever seen any there. Which makes me think if they did have them they obviously weren't important enough for me to remember. So I don't want to waste our small budget on these menus. Do you think its okay that I dont have them? I don't really care what other people think or say to me, but I just don't want to cut something out that everyone will be expecting and that I SHOULD have. for example: i would never go without a wedding cake. lol

  1. No

I enjoy having a printed menu but I did not use one at my wedding.

If you want to let everyone know what you are having then perhaps an announcement can be made before dinner by the mc, or the waiter can describe what is being delivered at the beginning of each course.

  2. They aren't really necessary but where are you having your reception? I ask because the place where I am having mine are printing the menues for me. I had never thought about it until they asked me how I wanted them set out and on what paper. I think its part of the package.

  3. As long as you've given people food options already on their RSVP cards, personally I think it would be silly to also give them menus. You only want a menu if you actually have a choice once you're looking at it. If your guests are not going to be able to change their mind or order something else once they're at the reception, I definitely wouldn't have menus.

  4. I've yet to be at a wedding that has them, maybe I just don't go to formal enough affairs...  If there's an entree choice, it is often indicated on the RSVP...

  5. I love the look of a menu at each guests place setting, and your not kidding when you say it really does add up to a big expense.  Since your guests will already have chosen via the RSVP, I don't think it's necessary. Just make sure the servers have a copy of the menu just in case guests forget the choice.

  6. I don't recall ever having a menu at a wedding and I'm certainly not having one at mine. I think you'll be fine without one! If there are people who have food concerns, you can let them know privately ahead of time what you are having. Also, if you have a wedding web site or a page on theknot.com, you can add your menu there (in case curious minds want to know).

    Good luck!

  7. At my aunt&uncle's wedding, we just had a buffet! no menu, no stuff like that...

  8. you dont need them. i've never seen a printed menu at a wedding

  9. well if its a dinner where they are choosing items of their dinner then i would have a menu but if its just one thing or a buffet then i wouldn't worry about it. i really don't recall one wedding where there were menus to be honest.

  10. You do not need a menu... it is definitely an expendable expense...

I've been to a wedding where there was no cake!! Bride & Groom did not like cake... they had a rice krispies sculpture thing... kinda cool, albeit a little weird! lol

  11. No. A menu is not a must have. We have menu choices printed on RSVP card.

We might do one just so people are aware of the champagne toast, since the type we are using is the same as my last name:)
